TAYE DIGGS
Taye Diggs wrote Chocolate Me! based on his own experiences of being African American. Diggs wanted to portray through the book what it is like for many young African Americans living in a society of white privilege. As a child, Diggs went through similar experiences that the child within Chocolate Me! went through. With that being said, Diggs and illustrator Evans decided to create a novel that would show what their childhood was like. Diggs wanted to portray through the book the struggles he, and many other African American children go through, such as acceptance from peers and being confortable in one’s own skin.
